After exploring the castles and prehistoric rock carvings, the trail continues down into the village. First, you’ll come across the majestic parish church of St. Joseph, then, across the road, Villa Visconti Venosta, and behind it, through narrow alleyways, the Church of St. George.
To the left of the church, follow Via Pruneri toward the river, then turn right onto the Sentiero Valtellina. You’ll pass the elegant Grosotto hydroelectric plant, before reaching a serene fishing pond—ideal for a relaxing break.
Continue on Via Molini to enter the village, passing the square to the left of the Town Hall, then turn right onto Via Patrioti, rich in historical charm. If while walking through Grosio you come across women in local attire, don’t be surprised, you are not in the middle of a historical re-enactment, this is the daily life of a village deeply linked to its traditions. The Grosino attire stands out from those of neighboring municipalities for the variety of colors, attention to detail and accessories that enrich it.

Its origins date back to the seventeenth century when some men emigrated to Venice for business. The maritime city was an important trade center where it was easy to come into contact with distant cultures. It seems that some inhabitants of Grosio returned home bringing Armenian slaves to repopulate the town devastated by the plague. Thus, the arrival of these women enriched the garments with fabrics, colours, and symbols that are still today elements of a heritage to be preserved and passed down.
